I woke up
The dream was never good but it was something that would hold my hand
I looked out
For a few too many months, for a river I could float on and could trust
(through my life)
Now I feel like I’m smiling like a fool
But free
We smoked butts
And drank because we could inside of catacombs built just for childhood
If you let them be
Now we fly
Like birds inside, encased in oil, tethered to one corner of the sky
The wind blows so high
Now I find myself smiling like a fool
But free
I don’t know
If I could possibly believe all the words that I’ve received that I’ve done good
When I’m not there
And I’ve got plans
I’ll have to build some legs to stand on, suck it up and beat my hands till I get there
And now I find myself smiling like a fool
But free
